GREAT RESPONSE:

Sonya Neumann of PHHC, Colorado Springs,  home visit coordinator reports:

As you might be aware, prescription drug coverage for the elderly is of great concern to Rep. Cloer.  He was able to see first hand how this is affecting seniors who fall in the gap without a secondary or supplemental policy and therefore, pay cash out of pocket for prescriptions.  The patient
we visited had several medicines (10 prescriptions all together) including her most recent prescription that cost $52 in addition to the nine others.  Rep. Cloer was appalled and vowed to help get this patient signed up for the pharmaceutical discount cards.  Rep. Cloer held a Senior Health Fair at the El Paso County Health Department on Tuesday, August 26, 2003. Information on discount programs for seniors was presented by several pharmaceutical companies.  Rep. Cloer and I will be working together to get information packets to eligible seniors on our
service.

Ms. Scott stated that her cat, Shack and her nurse, Steve are the things that keep her going these days.  Ms. Scott is appreciative of all the care
and service that she has gotten while being treated by the agency.  She stated,  "This service (home care) is great!  I don't know what I would do without it!  I had heart surgery 9 years ago and I didn't have anything like this.  Steve has been a real lifesaver!"

All agencies are encouraged to invite their state legislators to visit willing patients in their homes for a first hand look at the miracle of home care in action.
