State Officials Brief HCAC Board at Vail Meeting

Two representatives of the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy andBriefing the HCAC Board Financing described progress on the new telemedicine project authorized and funded by SB07-196.

Diana Huerta (shown below to left) and Sean-Casey King, both leading the telemedicine project explained the process being used to ensure the results meet the spirit of the legislation which was promoted and supported by HCAC. King narrated a PowerPoint program to illustrate the work flow and feedback process.

Diana HuertaThe project, in keeping with the mandate of the bill, will not pay for technology equipment, however home care providers will be compensated on a flat-fee monthly basis to use technology in their own way in the treatment of their clients' conditions. King has been conducting telephone briefings with Q & A for interested agencies, and may participate in an  HCAC-sponsored streaming-video, on-demand informational program aimed at getting the word out once the program is on line.

In a recent article in Home Care Automation Report, editor Tim Rowan said, "Colorado has clearly decided the way to save money is to spend money." He was comparing Colorado's approach to California's recent slashing of reimbursement rates. He quotes HCAC executive director Ellen Caruso in explaining the basis of the legislation and evolving project. Click here to review the article.
