Executive
Charisma: Six Steps to Mastering the Art of Leadership
We all would be better
leaders if we had the ability to gain effective responses from others.
This could be the last piece of the puzzle for our executive growth and
personal happiness. HCAC's convention keynote speaker Debra Benton will
teach us the "Six Steps to Mastering the Art of Leadership"
and will coach us on how to use aware actions and considerate civility in
order to get useful things done. The steps include:
*How to initiate
*How to expect and give acceptance
*How to ask questions and favors
*How to stand tall, straight and smile
*How to be human, humorous and touch
*How to slow down, shut up, and listen
You won't want to miss this outstanding presentation.
Health
Care in Colorado: The New Theory of Cost Containment
For those caregivers
providing health care, it is a difficult time of fiscal constraints,
with questions about the cost of providing care and the quality of care
provided. There are pressures on how to obtain more administrative
efficiencies and reward better quality of care. Meanwhile, we have not
decided the role of the free market as we move toward a new theory of
Consumer Directed Health Care. Upon completion or this session by Ralph
Pollock, session participants will:
* Have a feel for the international and national tenor facing the health
care environment;
* Be able to discuss the debate about health as a free market commodity,
like cars and TVs;
* Understand the traditional thinking about what is driving health care
costs;
* Have a different perspective of where the focus of change should be,
and
* Understand the new direction of health care financing and the
resulting delivery of care.
Monochromatic
Infrared Photo Energy - A New Therapy Modality for Peripheral Neuropathy
In this breakout session,
Thomas Burke will provide an overview of Monochromatic Infrared Photo
Energy (MIRE) and discuss clinical outcomes data including restoration
of sensation, reduction of falls, wound/soft tissue healing, increased
microcirculation and pain reduction. Upon completion, class participants
will be able to:
* Explain the mechanism of action for nitric oxide;
* Verbalize understanding of side-effects/cautions of MIRE treatment,
and
* Understand the modality and outcomes of MIRE related to treatment of
peripheral neuropathy, wounds, pain, edema, inflammation and
osteoblastic proliferation.
The Magic is in the Mix:
The Top Ten Techniques of Highly Effective Home Care Marketers
Nothing
happens until someone sells something. That's just as true in home care
as any other business. Yet many home care professionals are
uncomfortable with the idea of "selling and marketing." The
words conjure up images of fast paced Madison Avenue types hyping the
latest and greatest something or other. In this highly interactive session led by Stephen Tweed, you will learn that every home
care executive is a marketing person. You will experience a proven
process for communicating with your customers and potential customers.
Whether it's persuading a discharge planner to refer patients to your
agency, creating a direct mail advertising campaign, or making an
appearance on a local TV talk show, you'll find these skills invaluable
to your success.
PACE: The
Solution to the Gap Between Medicare
and Medicaid Services
The PACE model, which
integrates acute and long-term care into one seamless service package,
is the focus of this session by Tom Reiter. Participants will learn how
PACE helps to maintain at-risk individuals in the care setting of their
choice; how the PACE model provides seamless care between Medicare and
Medicaid; and how a PACE model utilizes capitated funding from Medicare
and Medicaid to deliver care.
Relationship
Selling and Persuasion Skills for Home Care Leaders
In this break
out session, Stephen Tweed will lead you through the seven-step
Relationship Selling process. You will explore new ways of approaching
prospective customers, how to develop rapport and build stronger
relationships, and how to assess your customer's buying style. You will
learn about special skills for communicating with physicians, how to
present ideas, programs and services and be introduced to the five
levels of persuasion. Quality
Counts: Are You Ready for Pay-For-Performance?
Pay-for-Performance (P4P),
the practice of linking payment to outcome performance, is on the
horizon. Experts suggest that we may see the emergence of a
performance-based payment model by the end of 2005. Are you ready?
Often regarded as a "sleeping giant," P4P is still an unclear
concept to many agencies across the country. Nancy Reeder will answer
common questions of: What is it? How will it affect my business? When
will it be implemented? What can I do to prepare? In addition, she
will describe, in depth, some of the current demonstration projects, and
the impact of those on our health care community. At the end of this
session you will be able to:
* Define common definitions and structure of a pay-for-performance (P4P)
program;
* Describe the challenges and opportunities of a pay-for-performance
program, and
* List agency implementation strategies for success with
pay-for-performance. Core
Strength and Controlling Incontinence
Have you ever wondered about
how you can get rid of your jelly belly? Do you realize the abdominal
bulge correlates to a weak pelvic floor and can contribute to your or
your patient's incontinence issues? Award-winning author and
internationally recognized speaker on fitness and physical therapy
topics, Caroline C. Creager will teach you how to make simple changes in
your daily routine as well as your patients to improve or eliminate
incontinence and increase strength in the lower abdominal and pelvic
floor regions. Session participants will learn to:
* Recognize what can cause incontinence;
* Identify types of incontinence;
* Learn basic anatomy of the pelvic floor and abdomen;
* Discover how the abdominal bulge affects the pelvic floor, and
* Identify three ways to improve your own abdominal and pelvic floor
strength - as well as your patients - and three ways to improve or
eliminate incontinence.
National
Issues in Home Care
Congress, Medicare, and the
Bush Administration have plans for home care in 2005. Deficit reduction,
Medicaid reform, long term care and a pending Medicare funding crisis
all need attention in Washington. Where will home care fit in all this?
Popular speaker Bill Dombi will provide an up-to-the-moment update on
what is happening on Capitol Hill and in the offices of the Centers for
Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). At the end of this session,
participants will be able to identify the legislative issues of primary
interest to home care; recognize the potential for Medicaid reforms in
2005; and discuss planned changes in Medicare home health reimbursement
systems.
Where
Does Home Care Fit in Long Term Care Insurance
Father
and son team Don and Cory Williams will discuss the social and financial
aspects of the aging of America along with an historical
perspective on Long Term Care Insurance (LTCI) and how this need
has emerged as a key topic in American politics. An extensive focus will
be placed on the facilities and services available to older Americans
with a concentration in the area of home care. Time will be spent
on who pays for Long Term Care services and the roles that these
providers play in the industry. A comprehensive look at the Long Term
Care industry will show how LTCI has evolved and how it has become an
integral part of retirement and estate planning.
Long-time member of the Colorado Insurance
Commissioner's staff, Robert Pierce will provide an overview of long
term care insurance and recent industry issues resulting in price
increases. He will discuss who can buy and at what cost; when benefits
become payable; and reverse mortgages as a financing alternative.
Wound
VAC Therapy: Benefits and Case Studies
In this session, wound care
specialist Charlotte Popovich will review the benefits of Wound VAC
Therapy in the care of wounds using specific case studies. A discussion
of cost comparisons will be included.
