Workshop Summary                            

Is your agency bringing those payments in the door that you are legally entitled to? Is your staff baffled about the use of MO245 and all those V codes? Your team cannot afford to miss this hands-on workshop where you will learn the basics of home care coding and how to code correctly for common home care diagnoses such as CVAs, diabetes, trauma wounds, surgical aftercare and pressure ulcers. In addition, you will learn justification of the necessary therapy, how and when to use the case mix codes and more...You must bring your 2005 coding book! Educational Objectives

Upon completion of the workshop, the learner will be able to:  

  • Identify the relationship between assessment, coding and the Plan of Care and the prospective payment system

  • Utilize the coding manual to find codes related to home health scenarios

  • Explain the sequencing of codes in patient scenarios 

  • Use the coding manual to code common home care diagnoses

  • Explain how to correctly use V codes and E codes

  • Identify documentation requirements for substantiating diagnosis codes

  • Analyze patient scenarios and code them correctly

Workshop Instructor                      

Lisa Selman-Holman, JD, BSN, RN, CHCE, HCS-D, COS-C is a home care veteran with 18 years spent in home health and hospice, both as an RN and as an attorney practicing exclusively in home care. She is the owner of Selman-Holman & Associates, LLC, a full service home care consulting firm. She is a Certified Home/Hospice Care Executive and is certified in home care coding. She recently achieved the Certificate of OASIS Specialty-Clinical. Lisa has taught home care coding to thousands of home care professionals across the country. Lisa is the technical advisor for Eli Research’s Home Health ICD-9 Alert and is a frequent contributor to Decision Health’s Diagnosis Coding Pro for Home Health. She is on the Homecare Coding Specialist-Diagnosis (HCS-D) national advisory board for the Board of Advanced Medical Coding (BAMC) and is a BAMC approved educator for the HCS-D certification exam.

Workshop Details                                 

The workshop will be held at Centura Senior Life Center, 1601 Lowell Blvd., Denver, Colorado (303) 899-5292.

Directions:  From Interstate 25, exit at Colfax. Go west approximately one mile to Meade. Go north on Meade 2 blocks. Park in the parking lot on the west side. Follow signs to the Centura Senior Life Center Auditorium. 

Parking: Free parking is available at Centura Senior Life Center in the lot on the west side. 

Lodging: There are several hotels near the Centura Senior Life Center. Please call the hotel directly for accommodation rates and availability.

Registration Details                               

HCAC Member: $145 first registrant
HCAC Member: $125 for second/subsequent registrants
HCAC Non-member: $275 per registrant 

Add $15 to each registration if submitting after August 26, 2005.

Registration fees include workshop admission, education materials, continental breakfast, refreshments and lunch.

Registrations postmarked on or before Friday, August 26, 2005, are eligible for the early registration discount fee.

Only employees of HCAC members and agencies in our neighboring states are eligible for the discounted fee.

Registrations may not be split between two or more individuals.

Payment will be accepted by VISA, MasterCard, check (payable to “HCAC”) or HCAC can bill your agency. Payment is required within 30 days of invoicing. If a second notice is required, there will be a charge of $20 per invoice.  

Taping: This workshop will not be recorded and therefore no tape or CD will be available for purchase.

Cancellation & Refund Policy
All cancellations must be made in writing to the HCAC office. Written requests for refunds received by Friday, August 26, 2005, will receive a 50% refund less a $50 processing fee. Fees are nonrefundable after that date. There are no refunds for no-shows. Substitutions are encouraged in lieu of cancellations.
